Grandfather Rights Review of Older Passenger Boats
On 28 December 2022, The Merchant Shipping (Safety Standards for Passenger Ships on Domestic Voyages) (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2022, otherwise known as Grandfather Rights, were passed into law.
Affected vessels are required to comply with the updated requirements by the date of the first passenger ship renewal survey after 28 December 2024.
There is now less than one year to comply with these requirements.
The changes are summarised in MGN 627(M) Amendment 1.
It is important to act early, to avoid a situation where the owner’s vessel is unable to gain a certificate to operate.
We are able to assist you in the implementation of these requirements.
